Subject: Invitation to participate in a project about indwelling catheter care in Australian aged care homes

Researchers from the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) are conducting a trial, titled the ‘IDC-IMPROVE Project’, to evaluate the feasibility of a bundle of resources to improve indwelling catheter care in residential aged care homes across Australia.
What does this project involve?
Trialling resources titled the ‘IDC-IMPROVE Catheter Care Bundle’ for managers/senior leaders, nurses and personal care workers in Australian aged care homes.
· Training programs to upskill aged care nurses and personal care workers in person-centred catheter care
· A skills workshop to upskill nurses on the insertion and removal of catheters
· Surveys and interviews with participating managers/senior leaders, nurses and personal care workers
· A review of the medical records of residents with indwelling catheters
Who can participate?
To be eligible, your aged care home must have:
1. A site located in either Victoria, South Australia or Queensland
2. Minimum of 4 nurses at the study site available for up to 6 months
3. Residents (1 or more) with an indwelling urinary catheter
