Hi all,
We are currently supporting the design of an expansion to our existing ICU. As part of the design there was an initial proposal put forward by the architects to have sliding doors along one wall between 2 bed bays, thus allowing for direct communication between these 2 clinical spaces. This was proposed to be the set-up between a number of patient care areas in this expanded facility.
We are investigating the appropriateness of this design concept as the clinical staff remain committed to adopting this proposal if possible. At this stage we are not supportive of this as we believe that this design will increase the risk of transmission of pathogens including MROs by having walls that slide back. We believe that there is supportive guidance in the AHFG Part D.
We would be particularly interested in any advice that you might have in relation to this design proposal.
I would be happy to receive your comments off-line if you would prefer.
Kind regards
Rachel……………………………………………………………………………..
