We saw a call before to ban handshaking in healthcare as a way to reduce transmission of organisms. Now a study suggest ‘fist bumping’ is the best greeting to replace a hand shake. Can we all see our consultants fist pumping their patients each morning? 🙂

I can see consultants fist-bumping if they wear their trousers low!
Seriously, the research was well conducted and well-written and actually
got space in our NZ newspaper Ive never had press like that with any of

I worked in Hong Kong during the SARS outbreak & one of the strategies which was promoted in the media was to perform the hands clasped in greeting in front of you -in a praying gesture like the Thai “wei”, or to give a small wave – instead of a handshake.
This was very acceptable in the Asian context – but might not appeal to those who judge people by the strength of their handshake.Regards,

Maybe we should go with the chest bump and keeps hands out of it all together. With a bit of singing along the way we can turn our facilities into an episode of Scrubs! Anyone want to do a research project on it?
