Hello brains trust,
Can anyone provide guidance/advice on best practice for hand hygiene for residential aged care facility residents with dementia? In particular situations where residents are unable to perform hand hygiene independently.
Thanks and regards,
Raul

Thanks for following up with this Raul.
Im keen for some really good suggestions as all I know is to help clients with Dementia wash their hands by completing the task with them, as a prompt for them to remember and copy my actions

Hi Raul,
Dimentia Australia have a Youtube clip advising on hand hygiene for residents living with dementia and a Helpsheet on Tips for residential aged care providers.
Another suggestion is to use alcohol hand gel as a hand massage, making hand hygiene a pleasurable experience.
Regards
Penny
