WHO is deeply concerned for the safety, health and lives of people in Ukraine in the escalating crisis, and in surrounding countries. Needs for humanitarian health support and technical assistance are expected to rise dramatically as the situation deteriorates.
WHO has launched a Flash Appeal and Regional Refugee Response Plan launched today by the UN and partners seeks US$1.1 billion to address the acute humanitarian needs of six million crisis-affected people within and outside Ukraine.
A WHO Concept of Operations (CONOPS), including incident management set up, strategic and technical coordination with partners is being finalised. The focus is on ensuring continuity of immediate and essential operations in Ukraine, and additional operational support and management from Poland, and other locations; and support and technical assistance to surrounding countries receiving refugees.
WHO Emergency appeal for Ukraine and neighbouring countries has launched and can be accessed from WHO website at:
https://www.who.int/publications/m/item/emergency-appeal—ukraine-and-neighbouring-countriesWHO Incident Management structure has been activated in countries, EURO, and at HQ to coordinate the response to Ukraine. WHO is working to maintain direct contact with the Ministry of Health to ensure timely response support to the health needs of the affected population.
