Dear colleagues
Please find below 5 May 2016 campaign information featured in the latest WHO SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands newsletter. Please use this wording to cascade information to others and to plan your actions.
Every year WHO very much appreciates the support that its dedicated supporters give to ensuring hand hygiene, as part of infection prevention and control, maintains a profile within health care. Your efforts are such a big part of this and this year once again it is vital that avoidable infections are given the attention they deserve – which is the overall aim of this WHO campaign.
Thank you once again and we look forward to hearing from you (if anyone would like access to a slide-set promoting this year’s campaign please do email me).
Bringing you the 5 May 2016 SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands slogan and image!

Practice hand hygiene for surgical patients from admission to dischargeYou can find this slogan and a new associated image featured on the campaign web pages

http://www.who.int/gpsc/5may/es/We encourage you to use these to promote the 2016 campaign in your organizations and regions – do you have journals or newsletters where you could feature the information? The campaign web page also features information on why this topic is the focus on the 5 May 2016 campaign.
Coming next promotional posters and a how to guide featuring information on how you can link with and engage your surgical teams in support of this years campaign. A technical poster featuring the 5 Moments in the context of surgical care and an infographic will follow in April, which will give you another opportunity to maintain the profile of hand hygiene along the surgical care continuum. Get ready to use these so that by 5 May we have evidence of infection prevention teams engaging with surgical teams to raise awareness about the prevention of infections in surgery, surgical site infections in particular.
Do you know a health facility that is not yet registered with the SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands campaign? Ask them to sign up here: http://www.who.int/gpsc/5may/register/en/. If you are having an event before or even after 5 May, you can use the Excel spreadsheet on this page to sign up a number of health facilities and you can then email this sheet to us at savelives@who.int.
Are you featuring information on your 5 May activities on your web pages and providing a link to the WHO campaign web page? If so, let us know and we can feature a link to your web page.
Every year, we know that many people, facilities and countries do various activities to maintain the profile of hand hygiene in health care, in support of this WHO campaign thank you to everyone for continuing to do this it helps save patient lives.
