In the last few days we have undergone a periodic review including Standard 3. 3.10 centres on the clinical workforce training in aseptic technique and most likely a Not Met result will be given.
Unlike nurses, for which there were competencies and assessments completed, for most procedures doctors do not have competency based training and assessments built in to their program.
As nurses it can be problematic to direct medical staff to change practice and comply with the requirements for competency based training and assessment.I think this may be a universal problem and not limited to hospital size and I also would welcome any thoughts/ solutions as how you may have introduced such a system to your medical fraternity.

HI Bronwyn,
Our official bed stats are just over 50, but we are a part of a network and have developed a program which has trained unit champions for practical competency accreditation and an online program staff access for the theory component.
Call for any further info.
