________________________________Hi Beth,
We have a similar design up here, the patient enters the theatre through the anaesthetic bay, the patient trolley is removed through the theatre doors and kept in the same place you have allocated. Our scrub sinks are along the wall opposite the trolley bay, they are not enclosed and the scrub staff enter the theatre through the double theatre door. I see not reason why you need to have a separate door for the scrub staff.
I notice on your drawing you have no other doors in the theatres, how do you manage the disposal of fluids, the storage of mops and unsterile bag liners etc required for the theatres. Also where are you storing your sterile set ups and how are you getting them in and the contaminated instruments out of the theatres? These things need to be considered from an infection control point of view.

________________________________Good Afternoon
We are currently undertaking the design of a new theatre suite. During this process discuss has arisen regarding the need for dedicate doorways to exit the scrub bays into the operating theatre, compared single doorway for entering and leaving the scrub bay and then using a shared corridor ‘entrance bay’ to enter the theatre. See table below for illustration of flow. Could you please advise if your theatres have this layout and if there have been any issues arise from this.
We would also be interested in opinions regarding the potential hazards associated with this design.
