Hi all
For those who have not seen it yet this attached is a new policy from McDonalds in the USA.This in my view is a great move forward to help minimise multi resistant bacteria in our foods. This will likely have international implementation. ( I at least hope so).
It is based on The WHO critically important antibiotic list. The first meeting that WHO held to create this list was in Canberra and was sponsored by our Commonwealth Department of Health. This list also flowed on from a similar list that was in the 1999 JETACAR report.
So Australia has played a major part in this.If we can get this implemented here and elsewhere we will all be better off from a resistance point of view.
Fluoroquinolone’s are not on the list that McDonalds will ban. However in Australia we have always had that class of drug banned. So if we can maintain our current restrictions plus get this McDonalds policy actually implement here in all food producers plus hopefully worldwide we will all be better off.
