I would be interested to know what strategies other services have for fit testing their staff. At the Royal Hobart Hospital the Infection Prevention and Control Unit runs training sessions several times a year to teach staff how to fit test within their units. This is particularly emphasised for units that have a high chance of patients requiring airborne precautions, aerosol generating procedures, chemotherapy etc.

We frequently hear comments that because of time constraints it is very difficult for fit testers to fit test staff within their units. A suggestion has been made by a staff member within the hospital that a dedicated fit tester should be employed to carry out fit testing of all applicable staff.

Is this a strategy that has been employed by other services? Does anybody have an alternative strategy that has been met with success?

    I would appreciate any comments/suggestions

    Kind regards
