29/05/2019 at 2:42 pm #75475NadeneAnother reference from ICHE which was also Australian research, and which genetically linked the transmission events from the index patients, via thrid party surfaces including environmental surfaces and POC equipment is Lee et al., ‘Defining the Role of the Environment in the Emergence andPersistence of vanA Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) in an Intensive Care Unit: A Molecular Epidemiological Study: Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol:2018:1-8’. Although the paper is focused around VRE (Van A and Van B), the principles of using modern genetic tools to track the bugs as they move around within a ward setting and with a defined patient group is a powerful indicator for all infection preventionists.
