    Hi
Hoping there may be some colleagues able to assist in sharing any procedures on the use of elastomeric respirators e.g. Sundstrom SR100.
We have encountered some high risk staff unable to achieve a satisfactory seal with current available single use P2 masks and looking to find safe solutions.
If anybody knows of any Healthcare facilities using these and willing to share any documentation on the management of this equipment, particularly the reprocessing of these items we would really appreciate it..
    Many thanks
    Kirsty

    Hi Kirsty,

Not that this is validated, just an anecdotal observation, and it’s not proper reprocessing, but it may help.

We have 16 people here using Sundstrom SR 100 respirators for when we do asbestos/mould/methamphetamine lab work, and we routinely wipe them over with isopropyl alcohol wipes, (the standard hospital grade skin prep ones or hospital grade isopropyl alcohol disinfectant wipes) and we have not seen any degradation of the respirators, or had them fail fit tests after this treatment, and some are many years old now. Mine is 5 years old and still working to standard, and there are some older ones than that around that have been cleaned this way a lot without any observed degradation of the materials.

We like this brand as they come in several sizes – which is rare with PPE, it’s usually just “average bloke size”, and so we can get them to fit all face sizes we have here and still have a pass on a fit test. They’ve also proven to be comfy when we have to wear them for extended periods of time.

We have also tried the 3M 7500 respirators which are much lighter than the Sundstrom ones and very comfy if you will be wearing every day for long periods, but I wouldn’t know about how they stand up to cleaning over time.

    Hope that helps,
