Hi all
I am seeking advice/ information about the process of double gloving when doing an indwelling catheter procedure. Our current procedure states the use of 2 pairs of sterile gloves to be used- one set applied after sterile field set up and used for the cleaning of insertion area and then removed, Hand Hygiene performed and the second set donned for the insertion. The competency tool used by the educators in our facility states that double gloving process can instead be used.
Can anyone provide literature giving evidence about why this process is not recommended from an infection control perspective.
I had always though double gloving a big no no as a barrier to the 5 moments of Hand Hygiene.
Kind Regards
