Dear All,
I am looking to connect with facilities who’s CSSD is reprocessing dental
handpieces through their washer disinfectors.Whilst common practice in other regions, in Australia, reprocessing dental
handpieces through WD is not common in office based practice. However, it is
performed in CSSDs of the Acute sector and likely consists of surgical
handpieces and or a low volume of restorative handpieces from dental lists.
There are of course exceptions. As many dental facilities grapple with the requirements of AS/NZS4187:2014,
it is increasingly evident that the use of associated services, eg: CSSD
within the health network, maybe a more viable option. This results in the
need to transport RMD’s and an increase volume of air turbines, air driven
motors and contra angle handpieces requiring reprocessing. These handpieces
differ from some surgical handpieces, in that, most cannot be dismantled.
Hence the loading technique within the washer becomes increasingly important
for both cleaning and drying.I would appreciate contact via the forum or email direct with any CSSD
Manager who has experience in this area. I hope our shared experience can
assist in consolidating this practice, by troubleshooting some commonly
experience issues that has results in some facilities ceasing the practice.Kind regards, Amanda Brown
