It has been brought to my attention that I don’t have a procedure for CSSD staff when they are handling equipment from a patient with MRSA, VRE or potential COVID case.

Can anyone share some light on how the instrumentation should arrive to CSSD?

Currently, it arrives in a tub, but should we have a sign on to say contact precautions required?
Do staff need to wear PPE?

Any help would be appreciated .
    Thanks
    Helen

    Hi Helen

All CSSD staff should be wearing appropriate PPE when receiving and processing all used items. There should be no need for additional alerting or labelling of items used on patients with MROs.

    Cheers
    Michael

    Hi Helen,

Im not sure if anyone has responded to your query but the short answer is the CSSD staff do not need to do anything differently for RMDs used on patients with any infectious disease.

When they are working in the cleaning area [Decontamination] they should ALWAYS be wearing full PPE, a full sleeve cover gown, gloves, surgical mask and eye protection / face shield.

I trust this is of assistance.
    Kind Regards
    Terry McAuley
