Good afternoon, everyone. I have been looking at how we provide residents with Covid-19 vaccination boosters. I have been informed that the accreditors are asking about a process for ensuring up-to-date Covid-19 vaccinations. I have not been able to find how we order vaccines yet. We have a number of nurse immunisers who can administer vaccines if we can supply.
The Melbourne Vaccine Education Centre has been defunded, so no information there. I order other vaccines through Onelink for influenza, Hep B etc., but Covid-19 vaccines are not listed. Our regional hospital pharmacy has advised that they do not stock the vaccines for use to order through them.
Any advice would be appreciated.Michele Bibby

On the NSW website it states:
Facilities can contact the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care at racfvaccineclinics@health.gov.au if they have issues accessing the COVID-19 vaccines.

I sought advice from our regional PHN vaccination support – the COVID-19 vaccination is still not accessible for RACHs.
The options are GPs complete as per resident usual care, Pharmacies undertake clinic onsite, Partnered GP clinic undertakes clinic, Primary care provider GP or Pharmacy attend onsite and work with RACH nurse vaccinators to undertake onsite and then vaccinations must be recorded in AIR within 24hrs of vaccination.
The advice is to contact the Murray PHN for vaccination support.

When I was running RACF I would reach out to our local pharmacist and I kept a vaccine register to show the ACQSC. At the beginning of each month I would count how many residents needed their booster and arrange a date with pharmacy.
If you are wanting to administer the vaccines through your vaccination nurses, then check with your major suppliers I.e ebos. They supply vaccines, however I don’t believe they are free. You can call and check with them.
Hope this helps.Thanks everyone for your responses. I contacted the local Primary Health Network and the Department, without luck. Our local pharmacy is not registered for vaccinations. I was in discussion with the local GP practice, who agreed to do a vaccination clinic onsite. Luckily, I have found a source of vaccine and have all updated consents from residents or their representative.
I’m not sure why it has to be such a drama. It seems counterintuitive.Michele
