    *Consultation on the NSQHS Standards Guides for Health Services*

    The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is
    currently seeking comment on the draft guides that have been developed
    to assist heath service organisations implement the National Safety and
    Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. These Standards were endorsed
    by Australian Health Ministers in September 2011.

    The NSQHS Standards aim to improve the safety and quality of care for
    patients and provide a clear statement about the level of care consumers
    can expect from health services.

    The Commission developed the guides to support health services better
    understand what is required to meet the NSQHS Standards and to provide
    information about tools and resources that may be of use.

    You are invited to make a written submission on one, or all, of the
    draft Guides.

    A copy of the consultation paper is available to download as well as the
    guides for:

    * Hospitals
    * Day Procedures Services
    * Dental Practices

    These documents and details on how to make a submission can be accessed
    on the Commissions website at
    http://www.safetyandquality.gov.au/internet/safety/publishing.nsf/Content/NSQHS_Standards_Guides_consultation

    Submissions can be sent by post or email. All written submissions should
    be received by close of business on *Thursday* *15 December 2011* to be
    considered in the consultation process.

    All written submissions will be published on the Commissions website,
    including the names and/or organisations making the submission. The
    Commission will consider requests to withhold part or all of the
    contents of any submission made.

    As part of the consultation process, the Commission is also conducting a
    pilot study of the guides. A sample of health services across the
    country will conduct a self assessment using the NSQHS Standards and
    then provide feedback to the Commission about the content and format of
    the guides.

    Please forward this request through your email networks to health
    services and stakeholders interested in reviewing and/or commenting on
    the Guides.

    *Questions relating to submissions should be directed via email to
    NSQHSStandards@safetyandquality.gov.au or by calling the Commission on
    (02) 9126 3600.*
