*Consultation on the NSQHS Standards Guides for Health Services*
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is
currently seeking comment on the draft guides that have been developed
to assist heath service organisations implement the National Safety and
Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. These Standards were endorsed
by Australian Health Ministers in September 2011.The NSQHS Standards aim to improve the safety and quality of care for
patients and provide a clear statement about the level of care consumers
can expect from health services.The Commission developed the guides to support health services better
understand what is required to meet the NSQHS Standards and to provide
information about tools and resources that may be of use.You are invited to make a written submission on one, or all, of the
draft Guides.A copy of the consultation paper is available to download as well as the
guides for:* Hospitals
* Day Procedures Services
* Dental PracticesThese documents and details on how to make a submission can be accessed
on the Commissions website at
http://www.safetyandquality.gov.au/internet/safety/publishing.nsf/Content/NSQHS_Standards_Guides_consultationSubmissions can be sent by post or email. All written submissions should
be received by close of business on *Thursday* *15 December 2011* to be
considered in the consultation process.All written submissions will be published on the Commissions website,
including the names and/or organisations making the submission. The
Commission will consider requests to withhold part or all of the
contents of any submission made.As part of the consultation process, the Commission is also conducting a
pilot study of the guides. A sample of health services across the
country will conduct a self assessment using the NSQHS Standards and
then provide feedback to the Commission about the content and format of
the guides.Please forward this request through your email networks to health
services and stakeholders interested in reviewing and/or commenting on
the Guides.*Questions relating to submissions should be directed via email to
NSQHSStandards@safetyandquality.gov.au or by calling the Commission on
(02) 9126 3600.**
AICA members provided a significant contribution to the development of
the new NSQHS Standards (Standard 3) and will be providing a
co-ordinated response to the Commission on this section of the Standards
