Dear ACIPC Members – Please see below for details on a volunteer deployment opportunity. This has come to the College via the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). Terms of Reference are attached.
Clinical Support to 2 Hospitals in FIJI – Call for Expressions of Interest
RACS Global Health has received a request from the Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to assemble and deploy two specialist medical teams to provide in-country support to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva and the Lautoka Hospital in the Ba Province. These health facilities and their healthcare workers have been hard hit by the COVID-19 outbreak in Fiji. The staff are tired and urgently need support and respite.
RACS has been asked to deploy two volunteer teams, as follows:
1. Volunteer team to support the Colonial War Memorial Hospital/Suva:
* 2 Infection, Prevention, Control nursing specialists
* 1 Intensive care nurse
* 1 Critical care/intensive care doctor
* 1 Anaesthetist1. Volunteer team to support the Lautoka Hospital:
* 1 Intensive care nurse
* 1 Critical care/intensive care doctor
* 1 AnaesthetistKey volunteer deployment information:
* The expected departure date will be mid-September 2021
* Duration of the deployment to Fiji will be two to three weeks
* Quarantine on arrival in Fiji may be waived (TBC)
* Volunteers will need to have received two COVID-19 vaccinations and provide a negative COVID-19 test prior to departure
* Volunteers will need to complete 14 days of quarantine on arrival back to Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand
* Existing and new volunteers are welcomeRACS will organise and cover the cost of all travel, accommodation, transport, pre-trip medical checks and meals for the duration of the deployment and quarantine period. RACS has also engaged International SOS to provide health and security advice and support to all volunteers.
