We are recruiting for a new position as Clinical Epidemiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The person will be embedded in the Infection Prevention service and will lead core data collection, management, analysis and reporting to support infection prevention across RMH. Activities will include surveillance of healthcare associated infections, monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) and evaluation of interventions. In addition, the person would be expected to build capacity for enhanced data collection to manage surge demand, for example, managing a major contact trace of staff and patients exposed to a transmissible pathogen such as COVID-19.
The recent COVID-19 epidemic among staff and patients at RMH has highlighted the requirement to synthesise all available sources of clinical data and use them in real time to identify emerging risks and challenges in patient care, health workforce safety and service delivery. The position will facilitate mapping of infection trends, identification of anomalies and sharpen focus on specific areas (wards, units). This objective requires collation, analysis and reporting of information that is fit for purpose to guide decision making about the need for and nature of targeted interventions to reduce infection spread.
The role will also assist in producing reports required by various stakeholders including subcommittees, the RMH board, VICNISS, Worksafe and the DHHS and support the administration of staff vaccination and training programs. They will also assist in writing and submitting journal manuscripts to present relevant analyses of relevant data.
The position will report to the Head of the Infection Prevention and Surveillance Service and the Head of the Victorian Infectious Diseases Service. The appointment will be initially for 12 months, with an expectation of an ongoing appointment..Link to online application page: https://melbournehealth.mercury.com.au/ViewPosition.aspx?idcWC2i8Be9AY&jbcere
