VICDear list members,
I would like to bring to your attention a TGA recall of the Professional Dentist Supplies’ Chlorofluoro gel product (batch number BK 119). This batch was identified as contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia following a cluster of cases in intensive care patients at a single hospital. The link to the recall is below:
http://www.tga.gov.au/alert/chlorofluor-gel
The recall also advises:
“If you identify any cases of infection with B. cepacia, consult the public health unit/health department in your state or territory. If you suspect a link between a case of infection and use of Chlorofluor Gel, please report it to the TGA as an adverse event.”
The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services would like to know if there have potentially been any cases in Victoria that could be linked to the use of this product. If any Victorian health services have had any recent isolates of B. cepacia from blood cultures or sputum that they believe are related to use of the gel, could they please contact the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory (MDU PHL) and arrange for the isolates to be sent to MDU PHL for further testing.
Regards,
Donna
