    Dear Infection Experts & educators

I have been in discussion with our Clinical nurse educators (CNEs) here who have approached me re what standardised approach they can take with staff who are not able (for whatever reason) not passing their aseptic technique competency and so I was attempting to develop with them a skills management plan / pathway for all our CNEs to use with our staff should they fail aseptic technique competency (once or several times). There is not many , but some do seem to struggle and we need to get them sorted& confident in understanding and demonstrating before we can allow them to undertake aseptic technique procedures (Ie they have undertaken our NSW health HETI online package learning package pre & then again post non-compliance, they can explain what aseptic technique is but are still not seeming to get it and able to put the theory they pass into practical action when being assessed I am being told)

As I indicated There is not a great number but our CNEs would like some guidance as to what next may be most useful education process pathway ie if that doesn’t work what next etc . as they want to be consistent, fair & proactive across the clinical field with staff

Anyhow I figured so much work has already been done by so many of you out there re apstc technique education & training & assessment that some may be happy to share what they have developed or some feedback on what works (& doesn’t) on how to get staff confident and understanding practically & able to demonstrate aseptic technique during assessing (so it continues in everyday practice)

    Thanking you in advance

    Kind regards

    Lindy
