    Dear ACICP members,

I would like seek advice from the group regarding MRO clearance and indwelling devices. In our hospital population we have children with a very broad range of indwelling devices, which is impacting on our ability to clear children with MROs. I would be very grateful if anyone out there could inform me of their criteria for MRO clearance for patients with indwelling devices: do you consider patients with indwelling devices for clearance or not? Do you distinguish between sterile vs non-sterile sites? For example, would you consider portacaths and VP shunts as different from pegs and suprapubic catheters, or are all indwelling devices equal? If anyone would be willing to share their clearance protocols or the evidence on which they have based their decision that would be especially helpful.

    Many thanks,

    Meryl
