We have just had our first cluster of 15 HCWs and residents in a rest home
testing positive for COVID-19. The information came from one day to
another. We have had two other rest homes with two positive residents each,
where one was connected to a staff member returning from overseas.
Otherwise, we have had very little community spread. A short notice in the
newspaper today about a tiger in the Bronx Zoo with respiratory
difficulties testing positive for COVID-19.made me research the evidence of
others of the cat family getting infected or testing positive. There are
some information but no peer-reviewed evidence. However, there was no
information regarding cats in rest homes. I would think most rest homes
have cats and they would be touched by both residents and staff.
Is this something we should think about?
