Dear All,
The Committee of the CJD Support Group Network would like to invite you to attend the 7th Annual National CJD Conference to be held at Yarra Valley Lodge, Chirnside Park on Sunday 19th October 2014.
This conference is designed for family members affected by CJD and health care professionals who are interested in patient care or CJD infection control guidelines.
There is a small registration fee of $60 for health care professionals to assist us with the cost of catering on the day. We are keen to encourage those of you who care for CJD patients or are involved in infection control and sterilisation areas to join us to learn more about CJD and other prion diseases and to share your experiences.
We apologise for a delay in sending out the registration/invitation this year but unfortunately we had to change arrangements. Due to a Jehovah Witness event in Melbourne over the same weekend there is very limited accommodation available in the Melbourne CBD area and what is available very overpriced. We made the decision to move the venue and host the whole event at Yarra Valley Lodge, gateway to Yarra Valley about 40 mins out of Melbourne, but this did also meant a change of date from Saturday 18th to Sunday 19th October 2014
You are also invited to join us for a welcome reception and dinner on Saturday evening 18th October 2014. We are subsidising the dinner but there will be a charge of $50 per person.
Keynote Speakers for this year’s conference include:
Professor Michael Alpers who many of you will know for his amazing work in Papua New Guinea researching ‘Kuru’.
Professor Maurizio Pocchiari from Italy who will speak about clinical research and novel diagnostic tools.
Professor Richard Knight from UK – Always a popular speaking, Richard brings an incredible amount of knowledge covering all forms of CJD .
Associate Professor Brian Appleby from USA. Brian has been a regular speaker for the last 4 years and as a clinician seeing up to 10 CJD patients a week he has invaluable knowledge to share.
Professor Steven Collins – Melbourne, Australia
Director, Australian National CJD Registry. Medical Director, CJD Support Group Network.
Steve will update us on surveillance in Australia.
We will be joined by several other Australian researchers and experienced health care professionals who will share their knowledge, answer your questions and be available during the workshop sessions to offer advice on patient care, diagnosis, genetic testing and infection control and sterilisation relating to CJD and other prion diseases. The workshops will take on a new format this year and later in the afternoon there will be round table discussions giving you the chance to speak individually to our expert speakers.
The registration form attached is also available on our website http://www.cjdsupport.org.au or you can call 1800 052466 to register or find out more.
The registration form can be downloaded, filled in and saved to a file or your desktop, then sent back to us as an email attachment – contactus@cjdsupport.org.au
Accommodation is still limited around the Melbourne area during this time so we suggest that you secure any accommodation you require as quickly as possible. We have held rooms at the Yarra Valley Motel until 1st September. A Twin or Queen room will cost $165 for the Saturday night.
Just mention the CJDSGN conference if you want to secure one of the held rooms.
If you require a shuttle service from the airport either on Saturday or Sunday morning with return on Sunday afternoon (arrival at the airport about 6 – 6.15pm) please advise us as we will be organising a minivan.
We hope you can join us and look forward to welcoming you.
We would appreciate you forwarding this email to other colleagues who may be interested in attending as our electronic list is limited.
Please also forward to any associations you may belong to if you think others may be interested in attending. We appreciate your support!
To unsubscribe please rely ‘Unsubscribe’ and you will be removed from our electronic mailing list.
Best Wishes
