    Dear ACIPC List Subscribers

At the recent APIC conference in Nashville, USA I noticed several foley “education” kits marketed by foley catheter manufacturers. The kits were specially packaged, labelled and designed to engineer standardised insertion and to educate users on CAUTI prevention. They were like clinical process bundles although I am not familiar with any evidence yet that demonstrates their impact on CAUTI rates.

I am in urgent need of some information related to 1. if any members are aware if these kits or others like them are available in Australia? 2. If anyone has used them? And, 3 even if the answers to the 2 previous questions are no would your institution be willing to consider investing in such kits and intensive CAUTI prevention initiatives if they were available in Australia and competitively priced or perhaps included by catheter manufacturers.

Given the List’s policy around avoiding use of commercial names I am more than happy to field responses at my personal email, Cath@infectioncontrolplus.com.au

It has been great to see recent Australian publications considering and reporting CAUTI prevention. The US, and especially Sanjay Saint, a previous ACIPC key-note speaker, has spearheaded several initiatives over the last few years.

    Regards
    Cath
