ACIPC, HICSIG, and AVAS have collaborated to produce some interim guidance on alternative antisepsis products.
Given the recent issues affecting supply of topical antiseptic products (mainly chlorhexidine) resulting from the Reynard Health product recall and changes in manufacturing, HICSIG in collaboration with the Australasian College for Infection Prevention & Control (ACIPC) and the Australian Vascular Access Society (AVAS) have developed some interim guidance on the use of alternative antisepsis products. This guidance is intended as an adjunct to existing guidelines to assist with local risk assessments during an interim period where the availability of these products may be compromised.
We hope this document might be useful to healthcare providers when evaluating alternative products to use as a replacement.
