Blood borne viruses (BBVs) and sexually transmissible infections (STIs) (STDs) are infections that can spread through contact with blood and/or body fluids or during unprotected sexual activity. Blood borne viruses, like HIV and Hepatitis B and C, can be passed through blood-to-blood contact including , while STIs, such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and herpes, can be spread spread through unprotected sexual contact. BBVs and STIs can be prevented By using protection (such as a condom) during sex, avoiding sharing needles and injecting drug equipment and avoiding blood-to-blood contact. In a healthcare setting, practicing standard precautions prevents contact with blood and body fluids and therefore prevents transmission. BBVs can be treated, and hepatitis C can be cured; STIs are also treatable.
