The last year has seen many of our pandemic structures and strategies retired however Infection Prevention and Control has continued to work tirelessly towards keeping our patients, staff and broader community safe. 2024 has been another very busy year for IPC.  Whilst many have moved on from the pandemic, IPC continue to stand up and provide support to our systems often overwhelmed with historical infections, new infections, novel infections and even some making a comeback. All whilst incorporating COVID-19 into our business as usual models. The “December wrap-up: IPC’s greatest hits and misses of 2024” will be a presentation to celebrate Infection Prevention and Control, an opportunity to reflect and acknowledge the great work of our community.

About the presenter:

Kathy is NSW chief Infection prevention and control practitioner (ICP) and healthcare associated infection (HAI) advisor at the Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC), NSW Health. Kathy is a Credentialled Expert ICP (CICP-E) and a fellow of the Australasian college of Infection prevention and control (ACIPC) with a master’s degree, a diploma in leadership and management, a range of internationally recognized certifications and a current future leaders of healthcare DrPH candidate. Kathy has held a number of executive positions within the college, past board director chair of credentialling and professional standards Committee, scientific conference organising committee and currently retains membership of the editorial board for Infection, diseases & Health journal and member of the professional and credentialling standards committee. Kathy has extensive and broad expertise and lived experience in Infection Prevention and Control in Clinical Practice, with additional experience in translational non-healthcare IPC with particular experience in biocontainment, outbreak management and multi-model IPC. Kathy was the NSW IPC lead for COVID-19 response. She has contributed nationally and internationally to a number of expert committees and panels and has published a number of papers in IPC. Kathy was also instrumental in the Aged Care Royal Commission, raising awareness for the need for established Infection prevention and control being embedded in Aged Care. Kathy has received awards for her leadership and management, a premier’s award for her role with Hotel Quarantine program and the prestigious Claire Boardman Medal for Leadership in IPC 2022 the highest honour of the college and IPC in Australia.
