WHO releases surveillance of HAIs handbook

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released their new handbook, ‘Surveillance of health care-associated infections at national and facility levels’

The handbook aims to improve HAI (Healthcare-Associated Infections) surveillance within infection prevention programs. It offers simplified case definitions and guidance on objectives, principles, and best practices for surveillance.

The handbook aims to help policymakers and professionals create effective systems to measure and prevent HAIs, with definitions validated by international experts to be suitable for low-resource settings.

These efforts support more countries in establishing HAI surveillance programs, ensuring consistent data collection across healthcare settings, and facilitating global, regional, and national comparisons.
