The ACIPC Foundations of Infection Prevention and Control course provides a valuable pathway for further learning and is an important resource for those wishing to pursue a career as an Infection Control Professional. With 11 SELF PACED modules, Foundations allows participants to apply knowledge to their own practice and is a key component to achieving the ACIPC Primary Credential (CICP-P). The program has been designed to accommodate busy work schedules, with a series of self-directed learning units supported by a structured online curriculum. Topics include environmental hygiene, outbreak management, employee health, surveillance, epidemiology and microbiology. This course reflects recent evidence, guidelines and standards.

Course Duration

In these exceptional times, ACIPC has taken the decision to make the Foundations of Infection Prevention and Control Course available in its entirety from the first week of the course, in an accelerated delivery mode. This means that the course could be completed in approximately 80 hours over a few weeks should the student choose, or have the time to work through the course material. The course is normally spread over about 24 weeks, and modules made available about every 2 weeks, however our online learning management system fully supports an accelerated delivery model, with all learning material available on day 1.

The Course Coordinator will support students with live webinars phone and email support.

Course Content

New materials relating to SARS Cov 2, and COVID-19 will be included in the course.

The “Welcome and Introduction” section of the course outlines course delivery and assessment in detail. Students are expected to write short 100-200-word discussion points on several of the modules during the course, a quiz tests core knowledge in all topic areas. The course will conclude with the submission of the final written 3000 word assignment.

This course is designed to be at the AQF8 level. This means that the course is set at a similar level of complexity and expertise expected within a Graduate Certificate/Diploma program. Successful completion of this course will award a Certificate of Completion in the ACIPC Foundations of Infection Prevention and Control (FIPC) Course. While this is not a University awarded Graduate Certificate/Diploma, the ACIPC FIPC course has been recognised by Griffith University and graduates from the ACIPC Foundations of IPC course may apply for credit against 8847NRS Contemporary Infection Prevention Practices.
